Gabriela Jílková, cimbalom player
During the seventeen years of active playing, Gabiela has attained significant achievements not only at the local music scene but also abroad (Slovakia, Germany, Hungary and France).
On countless occasions she has performed on the Czech TV (Prague, Brno and Ostrava) and the Noe TV, with both of which she has collaborated on documentaries about cimbalom the instrument, the art of playing it and its creators. She has also been a guest in the programmes on the Czech Radio and Radio Proglas many a time. Gabriela gained the first offers for solo concerts, which eventually took place in the context of Janáček’s Hukvaldy International Music Festival, in 2006 and 2014.
In 2007 she participated at the 9th Cimbalom World Congress in Oberammergau (Germany) and in 2014 Gabriela performed at the music festivals Janáček’s May (Janáčkův Máj) and Music’s Present (Hudební současnost). She graduated with the Janáček Philharmonic in spring 2015, performing the Concerto for cimbalom and the string orchestra by Daniel Skála. In spring 2016 she again played with Janáček Philharmonic at the concert “Chinese conductor with young czech talents”.
Gabriela has also collaborated with Ostrava Children’s Choir (led by Milan Chromík) at recording their CD Za Ostravu. With her teacher Daniel Skála she performs in cimbalom duets. She is also organising concerts and projects with many other musicians, not only from the Czech republic - e.g.,Tamás Bácsi, pianist from Hungary, Auður Edda Erlendsdóttir, clarinetist from Iceland.
Hand in hand with Gabriela’s participation in the field of artificial music goes her activity in the folklore ensemble Pramínky, originating in Kopřivnice. With the ensemble she has been awarded the first place and the jury’s honorable mention for the outstanding cimbalom play at the national competition of elementary art schools in Kyjov and the first place at the Children’s Cimbalom Chamber Ensembles Competition in Brno (Hudební střípky Jaroslava Juráška). In the course of its existence, the ensemble has collaborated with a number of other ensembles, the most famous of which has been the Japanese Youkio Sawy Trio or Danube Trio (Rodrigo Contréraz - Chile, Katariina Tirmaste - Estonia, Yanush Hurwitz - Izrael). The ensemble released its two CDs.
